UMPSA STRENGTHENS STRATEGICS TIES WITH TIANJIN UNIVERSITY (TJU) THROUGH DUAL DEGREE PROGRAMME

UMPSA STRENGTHENS STRATEGICS TIES WITH TIANJIN UNIVERSITY (TJU) THROUGH DUAL DEGREE PROGRAMME

19 September 2025 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) continues to strengthen its global academic footprint through its strategic partnership with Tianjin University (TJU), China, via the UMPSA–TJU Dual Degree Programme in Chemical Engineering.

This collaboration, established in support of our country’s commitment to internationalising higher education, echoing the spirit of Prime Minister, YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s recent visit to China, including to TJU itself, underscores the university’s proactive role in advancing cross-border academic cooperation and talent development. The UMPSA-TJU dual degree programme, now in its second intake, currently involves 24 students across two cohorts.

The first cohort, consisting of eight students, will commence their third year of study at TJU in late September 2025, while the second cohort is set to begin their second year at UMPSA in October 2025. An official visit to TJU was recently undertaken by UMPSA, from 9 to 14 September 2025, to facilitate the next phase of the programme.

The delegation was led by Director of the Centre for Academic Collaboration and Mobility (CACM), Associate Professor Dr. Nik Aloesnita Nik Mohd Alwi alongside Programme Coordinator from the Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering Technology (FTKKP), Associate Professor Dr. Chua@Yeo Gek Kee. Also accompanying the delegation was Head Officer of Yayasan Daya Diri, Siti Nashrah Nur A. Malek, one of the key scholarship sponsors for the dual degree programme.

As this marks the inaugural cohort’s transition to TJU, the delegates accompanied the students to provide support during this critical phase, ensuring their smooth integration into the new academic and cultural environment. The visit also included engagement sessions with TJU administrators and prospective industry partners in Tianjin.

These discussions focused on streamlining academic procedures, strengthening institutional coordination, and securing meaningful internship opportunities, an integral component of the dual degree structure that reinforces industry relevance and graduate employability. Associate Professor Dr. Nik Aloesnita said, this partnership reflects UMPSA’s commitment to delivering high-impact, globally relevant educational experiences while cultivating talent that is ready to thrive in a borderless economy.

As Tianjin University celebrates its 130th anniversary in 2025, this collaboration marks a significant milestone in UMPSA’s ongoing efforts to build strategic international alliances and develop future-ready engineers equipped with both academic excellence and industrial exposure.
